12th October 2012

Ray Anderson (Leslie & Glenrothes) capped his 2012 season by winning the Champion of Champions final at the Lake of Menteith on Friday 12th October. The top five individuals from each of the Saturday night heats of the Scottish Club Championship go through to this final to sort out who is the Champion of Champions.

The 2012 season will certainly be one to remember for Ray. He earned his first cap for Scotland at the Spring International at Lough Sheelin where he was 15th of the 56 anglers representing the four home countries and secured a carry forward to the squad for the 2013 Internationals. He qualified for the 2012 National final where his 14th place also secured him a place in next years Internationals and he will now be representing Scotland at the Spring and Autumn Internationals.

His session at the Lake today didn't start too well and it was 11am before he netted his first fish. He spent his day at Lochend and after picking up four fish in one drift he was reluctant to leave there. It was pretty hectic between 11am and 1pm but then became difficult as the fish seemed to go off. It picked up again later in the afternoon and he picked up two fish in the last half hour to give him 11 fish for 24lb 3.8oz. Ray stayed on a midge tip line throughout the day and his fish were taken on blobs, boobies, diawl bachs and snatchers.

Jim Hay (Dunfermline Railway) came close and only lost out by 8 ounces and like Ray Anderson he did better in the morning than the afternoon. He started his session at International Bay and having found a good head of fish there he opted to spend most of his time there. Boat pressure looked to have put the fish off but once most of the boats left International Bay they came back on.

Later in the day he moved over to Sams Point and then down to Hotel Bay where he picked up three trout to give him a total of eleven which weighed 23lb 11.2oz. Jim stuck with an intermediate line throughout the day and took his fish on two boobies and a cruncher.

In third place was
James Fairlie of Balfron Piscatorials. James fished muddlers and blobs on a floating line and started his day at Gateside Bay. From there he moved down to Sams Point and into Hotel Bay and at the end of the day he had 9 fish for 19lb 7.6oz

The salver for the heaviest fish in the Saturday night heats of the Scottish Club Championship was awarded to
Jock Craig (Brechin) for his trout weighing 5lb 6.4oz
