117th Scottish National Trout Fly Fishing Championships
Lake of Menteith - 5th September 2009

The final of the 2009 Scottish National Fly Fishing Championship was once again held at the Lake of Menteith. Forty eight anglers made it to the final and between them they caught 289 trout of which 149 were returned. The bag limit was set at three trout after which the competitors went on to catch and release. Steven Nicoll (Thalassa AC) was the clear winner with 14 fish which was three more than any of his rivals. It was very close for the next five positions with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th only being separated by one trout. Keith Logan (North Berwick AC) was second with 11 trout and had 2lbs to spare over Stephen Leask (Neilston FF) who also had 11 trout and came third. Rab Maxwell who had 10 trout was only 3 ozs away in fourth ahead of Campbell Morgan (Strathleven FF) and Kevin Neri (Raemoir TF) both of whom also had 10 trout. The top three received prize vouchers for the Glasgow Angling Centre which also provided the hook measures that were used throughout the competition.
